My first motorbike

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

It’s only when you are looking for something to buy that you realise how little you know about it. Well motorbikes are no exception. I now know that I know nothing about buying motorbikes. However, I do know that I liked the look of this one… Buying decidion process went something like this: It feels ok when I sit on it, turn the handlebars, turn the engine over, etc. Must be fine. I’ll take it. Now a proud owner of a Yamaha 125cc Trailway.

Learning to ride a motorbike

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I’ve always wanted to ride a motorbike. Not a scooter. A proper motorbike. Trouble is, whenever I’ve ridden mopeds on holiday it’s been a rather hair raising experience. Examples being: an ‘over-the-handlebars’  somersault at Bodrum harbour and a ‘near miss’ with 2 cars travelling at 70mph whilst I was attempting to turn left off a main road to Selcuk. Not a promising start.

I’d need to do it properly this time. Google search produced plenty of CBT and Motorbike training centres in London. I used East Side Riders. Great training school. I would highly recommend them. Compulsary Basic Training (CBT) took 1 day and after that I was allowed to ride a motorbike up to 125cc with L-plates. Now need a motorbike, theory test and practical test. You can see more information about practical motorbike tests on rider preparation section of Greasy Sprocket.
